David S. De Jong is Chair of the Firm’s Tax Practice Group and senior member of the Estate Planning Practice Group. Also a Certified Public Accountant with a Master of Laws in Taxation from Georgetown University Law Center, he concentrates his legal practice in tax planning and controversy, estate planning, business transactions and valuations including expert witness testimony. Mr. De Jong is accredited in estate planning by the National Association of Estate Planners and Councils and credentialed in business valuation by both the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and the National Association of Certified Valuation Analysts. With over 30 years experience, Mr. De Jong is a preeminent tax authority who takes a customized approach to each client’s planning and controversy issues.

Mr. De Jong has been recognized by Worth Magazine as one of the Top 100 Attorneys in the United States (2006) and twice by CPA Magazine, as one of the Top 50 IRS Representation Practitioners (2008) and as one of the 40 Top Tax Advisors to Know in a Recession (2009). In surveys of his colleagues, he was recognized as a top 50 attorney in Maryland Super Lawyers and a top 100 attorney in DC Super Lawyers (in each case one of two highest vote getters among tax attorneys). Washingtonian and Washington Smart CEO have also named him a top attorney. He holds an AV rating from Martindale Hubbell.

Mr. De Jong is a nationally recognized speaker and has been quoted in a number of publications including the Wall Street Journal and the New York Times. For 16 years, he co-authored J. K. Lasser’s book, “Year Round Tax Strategies.” He is active in many professional groups including the American Association of Attorney-Certified Public Accountants, where he formerly served as National President, receiving the Louis S. Goldberg Memorial Award for lifetime service to the organization, and the Montgomery County Bar Association and Foundation which recognized him as an Honorary Life Bar Leader for his many years of committed service.

Mr. De Jong was an adjunct professor for 25 years at four universities. His community service includes a term on the board of directors as Treasurer of the Metropolitan Center for the Visual Arts.
