Core Values

In 1978, Stein Sperling’s founding partners Paul Stein, Don Sperling and Millard Bennett created a law firm that set out to make a positive difference in the way that law is practiced. Our goal then—as it still is today—was to make meaningful connections with our clients, community and colleagues by dedicating ourselves to the highest levels of service, integrity and excellence.

For us, legal counsel is a responsibility and a calling. It is not simply about getting things done, but about doing things right. This commitment, along with the principles and values upon which our firm was established, is the foundation for the confidence our clients, community and people have in Stein Sperling and our work.

Commitment to Our Clients

Stein Sperling’s reputation among clients for providing a “personal touch” is not only about the personal attention and care that our attorneys provide for clients, but also the passion we have for the law and our clients’ matters. Our enthusiastic commitment to being there for our clients includes anticipating their needs on a continual basis and meeting those needs with value-added advice and counsel. We achieve this by being accessible and regularly communicating with our clients through meetings, personal phone calls, letters and email, as well as seminar presentations regarding cutting-edge information beneficial to our clients’ businesses and personal lives. Throughout our relationships with clients, we strive to maintain the high standards of commitment and excellence expected of us.

Commitment to Our Community

A fundamental component of our culture is our tradition of community service. We care about the quality of life in our community and do our part to ensure the success and well-being of its members. Our attorneys and staff participate in community festivals, fundraising for local hospitals, civic and service organizations, as well as other forms of giving. We are also actively involved in the business and legal communities. Our attorneys are members of the Maryland State Bar Association, Montgomery County Bar Association, Frederick County Bar Association, Montgomery County and Rockville Chambers of Commerce, the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA) and the Society for Human Resources Management.

Commitment to Our Professionals

Stein Sperling runs on respect—not only for our clients, but also for our people, their ideas and their differences that contribute to the firm’s growth and the success of our clients. We foster a supportive, open-minded and collaborative environment that embraces fresh ideas and new approaches, as well as provides opportunities for attorney growth and development. It is our belief that the various perspectives and diversity of our attorneys and staff makes us a stronger firm and allows us to better serve the varying needs of our clients.

Our History

Stein Sperling was established in 1978 and, over the years, has grown to be one of Montgomery County’s largest law firms. Combining their experience, knowledge and success in diverse areas of law, the founding principals focused on creating a firm that could effectively serve all the needs of our clients. From business, litigation, family law, estate planning, tax and criminal law, we have provided guidance and counsel to thousands of clients. Our teamwork-oriented atmosphere gives us a competitive advantage, allowing the strengths and resources of each of our practices and attorneys to work together to achieve the best possible results for our clients.
